Tallahassee Community College Model United Nations (TCC MUN) received seven awards at the Florida Model United Nations Conference in Gainesville which took place on October 15 and 16, 2021. Teams from Santa Fe College, Nova Southeastern University, Hillsborough Community College, and College of Central Florida were also in attendance.
This year’s team was led in Gainesville by TCC MUN President Sean Rutten and Vice President Nima Torabi. They were joined by TCC students Florian Armbruster, Joseph Davis, Maximus Figueras, Christopher Polinski, Clay Roberson, and Noah Snider. TCC MUN distinguished themselves as a result of students’ excellent preparation and work at the conference, including four awards for a position papers written in preparation for the conference, and three awards recognizing their performance in committees.
TCC MUN faculty advisor, Tom Waller observed, “After a year and a half of virtual Model UN conferences, students were excited to be back in person, discussing important issues with their peers, and that showed in the conference results.”
The team is now preparing for the National Model UN Conference taking place in Washington, DC from November 5 to 8, 2021. Preparations have also begun to plan for and staff the 26th Annual Tallahassee Southern Model United Nations conference in February, which TCC MUN helps organize every year for the region’s high and middle school students.
