TCC logoThe Tallahassee Community College Educational Talent Search (ETS) program was awarded a $1.3 million federal grant to prepare Gadsden County middle and high school students for college access over the next five years.

The ETS program provides students with tutoring, academic incentives, STEM experiences, cultural enrichment experiences and in person and virtual college tours. The program’s college success coaches also assist students with completing college and financial aid applications.

“Our program highlights a variety of things such as STEM experiences, to prepare students for one of the fastest growing work sectors,” said Sabrina Stewart, Program Coordinator for the Talent Search program. “We also support students with tutoring, preparation for SAT/ACT testing, and financial readiness to help them avoid the many money pitfalls that can trap our students. We also have had to pivot during the pandemic and so we provide in person and virtual exposure to college, as well as individual support to help students and families plan for their futures.

Through the program, 500 middle and high school students are provided free college, career and financial aid counseling each year.

“There are many steps on the road to college and we help navigate the path with students,” Stewart said.
“Oftentimes, in rural communities the exposure to high quality college ready experiences are few and far between. We provide these so that students are more comfortable and prepared to explore all their future options. It’s truly an exciting experience!”

The $1.3 million federal grant renewal allows for the program to continue assisting Gadsden County students.

ETS is a federal TRIO program sponsored by TCC and Gadsden County Schools. Talent Search aims to increase the number of potential first-generation students with income restrictions who complete high school and pursue postsecondary education.
